French Bred or FR Assimilated

RULES ON FRENCH BRED AND FR ASSIMILATED

For French born and bred horses as well as assimilated French bred horses, the mares have to stay in France at least 180 days during the foaling year.

 

FRENCH BRED HORSE

A French bred horse is a horse born in France that has not been exported before the 1st of June of its yearling year, except for a trip abroad not exceeding 1 month.

 

ASSIMILATED FRENCH BRED HORSE

An assimilated French bred horse is a horse out of a mare usually resident in France (the mare’s Export certificate must be lodged at France Galop offices), be registered in the French stud-book, and may be either born in France or born abroad but must fulfill the following conditions:

IF THE FOAL IS BORN IN FRANCE
it can be exported with its dam to be covered and must be back in France with its dam before July 15th of its birth year.
It must have been identified before leaving France and stay in France until at least the 1st of June of its yearling year.

IF THE FOAL IS BORN ABROAD
because its dam has been exported to be covered, the conditions are:
• Its dam must leave France after the 15th of December of the year preceding the birth and must come back before the 15th of July.
• The mare has the right to stay abroad for a maximum of 180 days in total.
• The horse must stay in France until at least the 1st of June of its yearling year.
• (except for a temporary exportation not exceeding 1 month).
