From year to year, the list of Group winners sold at the October Yearling Sale just keeps growing. Just last weekend, the two-year-old ROCQUES won the Gr.3 Prix d’Aumale at ParisLongchamp. Bought for €60,000 by Mandore International and Fabrice Chappet from Haras de Montaigu last year, this daughter of Lawman is unbeaten in three outings and will now be targeted at the Gr.1 Prix Marcel Boussac – Criterium des Pouliches on Arc day.
On the other side of the Atlantic, SISTERCHARLIE added to her winnings this year when taking the Gr.1 Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland before following up in the Gr.1 Diana Stakes at Saratoga and the Gr.1 Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington Park.
In Europe, LORD GLITTERS was placed at Gr.1 level both at Royal Ascot and the Qatar Goodwood Festival, before taking the Gr.3 Strensall Stakes at York. DICE ROLL and LOUIS D’OR both came down by less than a length in the Gr.1 Abu Dhabi Poule d’Essai des Poulains and Gr.1 QIPCO Prix du Jockey Club respectivaly. Fellow October Yearling Sale graduates CITY LIGHT, THEWAYIAM, OUR LAST SUMMER, ELYSEA’S WORLD, GRAPHITE, JIMMY TWO TIMES, JACKFINBAR, SQUARE DE LUYNES, TORNIBUSH and CHEIKELJACK have all won or been placed at Listed or Group level this season.
The 2018 edition brings together 625 yearlings ready to follow in their footsteps. Organised in three parts, the sale will start on Tuesday, October 23 at 10:30am with Part 1 made up of 228 lots. The 297 horses in Part 2 will go through the ring over the following couple of days from 3:00pm on Wednesday and 11:00am on Thursday. The last day of the sale on Friday 26 October, will begin at 11:00am and brings together 100 colts and fillies for Part 3.
A total of 596 Yearlings Qualified for the 2019 October Yearling Sale Criterium
Won last year by future Gr.3 Prix Djebel winner DICE ROLL, the October Sale Criterium will take place this year on October 6 at ParisLongchamp.
Reserved for two-year-olds that were offered at the sale in 2017 and subsequently made eligible by their owners, the second edition of the race, worth €275,000 in prize money, will see €137,000 go to the winner. The breeders of the first three placed horses will be presented by the race’s sponsor Haras de Bouquetot with a covering by Shalaa for the winner, Olympic Glory for finishing second, and Toronado for the third.
Of the 625 yearlings catalogued this year, 596 colts and fillies are qualified and could be entered in the 2019 edition of the race that will also take place at ParisLongchamp during the prestigious Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe weekend.
No Less Than 130 Stallions Represented
The catalogue brings together a wide range of stallions, of which many are French based including the Aga Khan Studs’ leading light SIYOUNI, represented by 25 lots, while the promising ANODIN has 19 yearlings catalogued and is notably the sire of ANODOR, unbeaten in two starts including the Gr.3 Prix des Chenes last weekend. Other French-based sires with progeny in the catalogue include CHARM SPIRIT, DABIRSIM, INTELLO, KENDARGENT, LE HAVRE, OLYMPIC GLORY, PEDRO THE GREAT, TORONADO, WOOTTON BASSETT etc.
The in-demand sires ACCLAMATION, CAMELOT, DANSILI, DARK ANGEL, FRANKEL, GALILEO, HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR, INVINCIBLE SPIRIT, KODIAC, LOPE DE VEGA, MASTERCRAFTSMAN, NO NAY NEVER, OASIS DREAM, POET’S VOICE, SEA THE STARS, SHOWCASING and ZOFFANY are also well represented among the 625 colts and fillies selected, in addition to newcomers such as GLENEAGLES, GOLDEN HORN, GUTAIFAN, MUHAARAR and NIGHT OF THUNDER.
Rich Black-Type Pedigrees
A total of 77 consignors will be present at Deauville for the sale, including Haras des Capucines which will offer the joint-biggest consignment with 33 yearlings. Highlights include a son of Kingman out of Group 2 winner TAMAZIRTE (lot 57), a half-brother by Lope de Vega to Listed scorer and Prix Niel contender NATURALLY HIGH (lot 180) , as well as a half-sister by No Nay Never to French Champion Two-Year-Old THE WOW SIGNAL (lot 228).
Haras de Grandcamp will also send 33 yearlings through the ring, including a half-brother by Dabirsim to Group winner WOOTTON (lot 91), and the first foal by Dawn Approach out of a half-sister to the very talented ROYAL HIGHNESS and FREE PORT LUX (lot 141).
A total of 31 lots will be presented by Coulonces Sales, of which a half-sister by Kendargent to Group 1 winner MORANDI (lot 68) and a brother to Listed scorer AUBEVOYE (lot 185).
Ecurie des Monceaux sends 29 colts and fillies to the sale, including a half-brother by Camelot to the talented PRUDENZIA and PACIFIQUE (lot 18), a half-brother by Galileo to Group 1 winner SEISMOS (lot 39), a half-sister by Makfi to the very consistent JIMMY TWO TIMES (lot 51), as well as the first foal out of multiple Group 2 placed CHALNETTA (lot 116).
La Motteraye Consignment is represented by 28 horses at Deauville including a half-sister by Muhaarar to Group 1 placed LOUIS D’OR (lot 49) as well as a half-brother by Oasis Dream to black-type performers SAHRAWI and SARRASIN (lot 38).
Haras d’Etreham has a consignement of 26 yearlings, notably a daughter of Invincible Spirit out of Group winner SEDICIOSA (lot 40) and a half-sister by Wootton Bassett to Listed winner SHADAN (lot 85).
