Across Europe, passing through Dubai, the United States and Scandinavia, horses bought at the October Yearling Sale continue to shine on the racetrack. It was THE RIGHT MAN, bought by Thierry Delegue for only €32,000, that started off 2017 with a bang when taking his first Group 1, the Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan.
In the wake of that victory, LE BRIVIDO and SISTERCHARLIE went on to register Group wins and be narrowly touched off in the Classics. The former, knocked down to Irishman George Mullins from Haras de Clairefontaine’s consignment for €42,000, gave Brametot an epic battle in Poule d’Essai des Poulains Gr.1 before taking the very competitive Jersey Stakes (Gr.3) at Royal Ascot. As for SISTERCHARLIE, she was purchased for just €12,000 by Paul Nataf from the Ecurie des Monceaux before taking the Prix Penelope. She then went down a head in the Prix de Diane Gr.1, before most recently taking the runner-up spot once again in the Belmont Oaks Invitational (Gr.1) on her American debut.
In Germany, the well named REAL VALUE, a €25,000 buy by Mario Hofer took his first Group race at Hanover in August. The 2017 Scandinavian Classics have also been totally dominated by horses bought at the October Yearling Sale: the Haras du Lieu des Champs consigned DORCIA, bought for €40,000 by Morten Buskop, registered a rare Swedish Derby/Oaks double, while the Haras des Capucines offered HIGH AS A KITE, knocked down for €18,000 to Jan Bjordal, took the Swedish 1000 Guineas before following up in the Norwegian Derby. Another George Mullins purchase, TROUBLE OF COURSE, this time from Haras du Quesnay, also took the Gr.3 Marit Sveaas Minnelop at Ovrevoll.
A total of 653 yearlings from 90 consignments are ready to follow in the footsteps of such illustrious predecessors at the 2017 October Yearling Sale, which will take place from October 17-20 in Deauville. The catalogue, which is now available online, is split into two sections: the first day, Part I, will start at 10:30am, while Part II will take place over the following three days.
