State Man, a son of Doctor Dino and Arret Station who was bred by M.L. Bloodstock Ltd was a convincing winner of the Grade 3 Mccoy Contractors Country Handicap Hurdle race. Interestingly, his dam Arret Station, who is Johann Quatz, was a very prolific racehorse. She ran an astounding 42 times over four seasons, first on the flat and then mainly over hurdles. During her career, she won three races, including one steeple-chase, and was also placed 21 times. State Man, who is trained by Willie Mullins in Ireland and carries the yellow and black chequered silks of John Donnelly, is her fourth foal. State Man’s older half-sister Statuaire, who is by Muhtathir, is also trained by Willie Mullins and while she was well beaten in the Grade 2 Ryanair Mares’ Novices Hurdle on Thursday, she is nevertheless a Grade 1 winner as she did lift the Baroneracing.com Royal Bond Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse last year.
