THUNDERSPEED (C2), FRA by Night of Thunder ex Marmoom Lover (Cape Cross)

Prix de Marolles (Unraced 2-year-old Colts & Geldings, 1,400m/7f), July 3, Deauville

Owner: Écurie Gribomont
Trainer: Christophe Ferland
Breeder: Écurie Gribomont
Rider: Julien Augé

Spotted early next to the front-)running Chambonas(Wootton Bassett), Thunderspeed (Night of Thunder) took the edge at the right point and kept off Eté de Carl (Sommerabend) and Monte Cinto (Make Believe), beaten almost two lengths

Thunderspeed’s dam Marmoom Lover (Cape Cross) raced at first for Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum but passed on to Belgian owner Jean-François Gribomont after her maiden win at Toulouse over 1m4f. Born in January, she would go on until the nedn of her 5-year-old season and scored five times, mostly in handicaps, in 32 races. She won her best handicap with a 71lbs tag.

Thunderspeed is her 4th foal and her 2nd winner. He was unsold €40,000 at Arqana as a yearling. Since then, her dam gave a Prince Gibraltar colt.

MAGEVA (F2), (GB) by Wootton Bassett ex Melilot (Elusive City)

Prix de Firfol (Unraced 2-year-old Fillies, 1,400m/7f), July 3, Deauville

Owners: Hubert Guy, Antoine Gilibert, Gilles Barbarin & Benoît Chalmel
Trainer: Fabrice Chappet
Breeder: EARL Haras de Saint-James
Rider: Stéphane Pasquier

The leading Mageva (Wootton Bassett) took off early in the straight and edged left when hard ridden to keep going as the field was following the rail, and she ket on responding to keep a short head over Vienne (Showcasing).

Mageva is the first foal out of Melilot (Elusive City). She was paid € 75,000 € by bloodstock agent Hubert Guy, who’s now part-owner, at the Arqana August Sale in 2018.

Her dam never won but she’s a sister to Pride Dancer (Fasliyev), a Prix Herod (L) winner over 7 furlongs who also finished 3rd in the Senorita Stakes (Gr3) in California.

After Mageva, Melilot gave an Outstrip yearling filly.

SKYWARD (C3), FRA by Camelot ex Shakeyourbody (Giant’s Causeway)

Prix du Cochet (Unraced 3-year-olds, 1,900m AWT), July 3, Deauville

Owner: Arno Curty
Trainer: Fabrice Chappet
Breeder: Aleyrion Bloodstock
Rider: Stéphane Pasquier

Entered as early as March, even in the QIPCO Prix du Jockey Club, Skyward(Camelot) belated his debut until July over Deauville’s All-Weather. Fast ahead, he veered left in the end and was looking like he couldn’t cop one furlong out but Pasquier got him right in balance again and he took off again to score comfortably by one length and a half over Green Siren (Siyouni), who finished well. Favourite Camusot (Mastercraftsman) only stayed on in third by the rail.

Bred by Aleyrion Bloodstock, Skyward was paid £ 170,000 at Tattersalls October sales in 2017. He’s a brother to the good Siyoushake (Siyouni), second in the Darley Prix Jean Romanet (Gr1) after winning the Prix Quincey Barrière (Gr3), and to Pleasemetoo (Vale of York), a Prix d’Aumale (Gr3) 2nd in 2015 for Jean-Etienne Dubois. The dam has since been exported to Australia.
