8 HORSES WITH FRESH FORM ON THE FLAT OR OVER JUMPS ADDED TO THE SUMMER SALE CATALOGUE AS WILD CARDS

As a result of the Wild Card system, eight horses in training have been added to the Summer Sale catalogue that have recently produced eye-catching performances. They will go under the hammer on July 6 at Deauville.

  • MADIVA (lot 340)

Trained by Christophe Lotoux and rated 88, this five-year-old daughter of Aussie Rules is a winner this season and was last seen running 3rd in the Listed Prix Urban Sea. She hails from the family of Gr.2 victrix and Gr.1 performer MACLEYA as well as talented stayer MONTCLAIR, winner of the Gr.3 Prix de Barbeville among other smart performances.

  • LA GOMMEUSE (lot 350)

This three-year-old daughter of Zamindar is consigned by Grove Stud. She graduated to Listed-winner status in the Premio Mario Incisa Della Rocchetta (L.) in May in Milan, having previously taken the runner-up spot in the Premio Seregno (L.).

  • VARGAR (lot 355)

Bred and offered by the Aga Khan Studs, this three-year-old colt by Azamour is a grandson of Group 1 winner VADAWINA, also the dam of black-type horses VADAMAR and VEDOUMA. Rated 94, this Jean-Claude Rouget trainee won two of his three races as a juvenile and ran 4th in the 2017 Prix François Mathet (L.) won by subsequent Gr.3 Prix Noailles winner SOLEIL MARIN.

  • DEFY DE MEE (lot 370)

Another four-year-old AQPS, this time a gelding by Country Reel, he is a half-brother to Group-winning hurdler and Grade 1-placed chaser in Britain, AS DE MEE. Trained by Jerry Planque, he started his 2017 campaign with a 2nd at Le Lion d’Angers before opening his account on his latest outing, holding off the aforementioned DARK CAVIAR by ¾ length.

  • BALLYWOOD (lot 375)

A three-year-old gelding by Ballingarry, trained by François Nicolle, who has won his last two starts. After scoring by 4½ lengths at Dieppe over 2 1/8 miles, he doubled up over the same trip at Clairefontaine on Monday, notably beating the highly regarded EQUEMAUVILLE. He is a novice both over hurdles and fences.

  • CHEF D’EQUIPE (lot 380)

This five-year-old AQPS gelding is a son of leading jumps sire Presenting and a half-brother to Auteuil Listed scorer UN BEAU MATIN. Runner-up on three occasions over hurdles last year, the charge of Nicolas de Lageneste broke his maiden over fences at Auteuil on his latest start but remains a novice both over hurdles and fences.

  • DARK CAVIAR (lot 385)

A four-year-old AQPS filly by Network, hailing from a successful jumps family that includes Group winner UT DE SIVOLA. Currently in training with Alain Couetil, she won on her debut over a mile and a half last year, before following up over 1m5f a month ago. A very consistent performer, she ran a close 2nd to DEFY DE MEE last time out, her fourth start to date.

  • HELL BOY (lot 390)

This four-year-old gelding by Martaline is offered by trainer François-Marie Cottin. Placed in four of his five starts this year, all over hurdles, he finished 3rd in the Prix Stanley (L.) and also ran 4th in the Prix Aguado (Gr.3) this month at Auteuil behind the very talented TUNIS. He is a novice both over hurdles and fences.

A few Wild Cards are still available. This late entry scheme was created a few years ago to accommodate horses with fresh form, whether on the flat or over jump and Wild Card entries always prove extremely popular with buyers. Last year’s Summer Sale topper DANCE OF LIFE, who posted a historic record when selling for €400,000 to Horse France acting on behalf of Paul Moroney, had been added to the catalogue after losing his maiden tag in style at Saint-Cloud in a hot conditions race.
