FEBRUARY MIXED SALE: A QUALITY CATALOGUE FOR THE FIRST SALE OF THE YEAR

Posted on | Posted in news

The sales year at ARQANA starts with one of the best catalogues of recent times for the February Mixed Sale, which takes place on Tuesday, February 14. Now available online, it is made up of 307 lots including 110 mares, 54 maiden fillies, 74 horses in training, 21 two-year-olds, 46 yearlings, a stallion and a stallion prospect.

It is a sale where diversity goes hand-in-hand with quality, which was most recently proved by last year’s dual Classic winner LA CRESSONNIÈRE, as her dam was bought for just €40,000 at this sale in 2010.

Exceptional National Hunt pedigrees on offer following the dissolution of the partnership between Ecurie Sagara and Francois Nicolle

Lots 100 to 107 are horses that come from the dissolution of the partnership between Francois Nicolle and Ecurie Sagara, which regularly feature high up in the National Hunt owners’ table in France.

The first to go through the ring is the mare IVRESSE DU BERLAIS (lot 100), the winner of the Prix Christian de l’Hermite-Grand Steeple-Chase des 4 ans (L.) at Cagnes-sur-Mer. This daughter of POLIGLOTE is out of the top National Hunt family of ISIS DU BERLAIS and Group winners BONITO DU BERLAIS and NIKITA DU BERLAIS. Only a seven-year-old, she is in foal to Haras de la Hêtraie’s new recruit BATHYRHON. The next two lots are first foals, including: KODALIE (lot 102), born in 2015, is from the first crop of COKORICO, and a daughter of SAINT DES SAINTS (lot 101) that has just turned two.

The five others that are currently in training with Francois Nicolle are:

  • ELLEN DES MOTTES (lot 103). This three-year-old filly by MARESCA SORRENTO is a close relative to Prix Murat (Gr.2) winner FARLOW DES MOTTES by the same sire.
  • GOOD SHOT MADAM (lot 104). This four-year-old daughter of YEATS should open her account very soon having finished second and third over hurdles at Enghien on her only starts.
  • GIANICOLO (lot 105). This Anglo-Arab by BALKO was very consistent during his first season over jumps last year, and was notably placed over fences at Auteuil.
  • ROI MAGE (lot 106). This five-year-old son of POLIGLOTE is also very consistent. He counts one win and 12 places in 16 outings, and was notably second in the Prix Ferdinand Dufaure (Gr.1) and third in the Prix Duc d’Anjou (Gr.3) last year.
  • SAINT PIERROT (lot 107). This four-year-old son of DELLA FRANCESCA won over fences and hurdles last year.

Horses-In-Training

The horses-in-training section of the catalogue is highlighted notably by the Wertheimer Brothers’ KALIMERA (lot 58), a recent winner at Pornichet for Christophe Ferland and now has a rating of 84. A daughter of the American stallion KITTEN’S JOY, which has been very successful in Europe, she was very consistent last year when placed in each of her five outings.

Nicolas Clément will offer the smart PRESTIGE VENDOME (lot 169), a Listed winner as a two-year-old before finishing runner-up in the Poule d’Essai des Poulains (Gr.1) the following year. This half-brother to STYLE VENDOME won twice in 2016 and finished second in the Grand Prix de Compiègne (L.) and third in the Grand Prix de Vichy (Gr.3) and currently has a rating of 104.

Maiden Fillies

Of the 54 maidens on offer, there are several Listed winners including SOLOJORIE (lot 188), offered from Haras de Préaux. This daughter of SOLON, with a rating of 94, won the Grand Prix du Conseil Général des Alpes-Maritimes (L.) for Jess Parize. CATALINA BAY (lot 190) also won at this level in Italy, and was third in the Critérium de Vitesse (L.) at Chantilly, with a rating of 88.

There are also some extremely well bred fillies on offer, notably STACEY SUTTON (lot 61), a winning filly and a half-sister to Prix Imprudence (Gr.3) winner SPECTRE, offered from MM Racing; and STAND UP IN PARIS (lot 128) consigned by Haras de la Roussière, out of a daughter of the excellent performer GOLDAMIX.

On the National Hunt side, Haras de Commeaux offers CAMELIA DES BORDES (lot 147), a half-sister to the talented ADAGIO DES BORDES, winner of the Prix Count Schonberg (L.) at Auteuil last year. A five-year-old, this daughter of CROSSHARBOUR comes from the family of UTOPIE DES BORDES and VICTOIRE DES BORDES. Another filly with strong credentials is PRATICKS (lot 170), a five-year-old half-sister to Gr.1 Prix Renaud du Vivier hurdle victor CAPIVARI and herself the winner of three races on the flat.
