The dam of Gr.3 and dual Listed winner HOME OF THE BRAVE, the 10-year-old mare Blissful Beat got the Arqanaonline.com 2017 season off to a strong start when selling for €235,000 on a bid from Justin Carthy’s RJB Bloodstock. A group of French-based investors were the underbidders on the unraced half-sister to two black type winners.
Blissful Beat was offered by Haras du Grand Chêne and came with some strong credentials. Home Of The Brave was her first foal, who was snapped up at ARQANA’s August Yearling Sale for €80,000. Her following offspring, colts by Dream Ahead and Excelebration, proved even more popular, commanding €250,000 and €180,000 respectively. The mare’s impressive physique and an early cover to French champion sire Le Havre, the sire of dual classic winners La Cressonnière and Avenir Certain, did the rest.
Justin Carthy, who is notably the co-breeder of Alice Springs, was acting on behalf of a group of Irish breeders including himself. He explained that the mare would ship to Ireland to foal down and that a decision on her 2017 mating would be made in the near future.
