On 19 August this year, the Elie de Brignac sales complex in Deauville will be the stage of the second renewal of the v.2 Yearling Sale, following the August Yearling Sale. Last year, the inaugural sale posted most satisfactory results and nearly 82% of yearlings on offer found new homes for an average sale price of €27,100. Among this generation of young horses which are now two year olds, 28 have now won or been placed from 34 runners, as of 30 June 2014, while a good number have been declared in the next couple of days.

As in 2013 the catalogue for the v.2 sale, which is now available at, offers a selection of 123 yearlings whose profile looks geared toward being raced from the age of two. These colts and fillies will be prepared and consigned by 45 different studs all of which are based in France.
The largest contingent is dispatched by the Haras des Granges (8 yearlings), followed by the Haras de la Haie Neuve and La Motteraye Consignment, who will send seven yearlings to Deauville, then by the Haras des Capucines, the Haras de Grandcamp and the Haras du Quesnay, all three of which will present a draft of six yearlings.

A catalogue full of precocious yearlings

Precocity is the driving force behind the v.2 Sale and this characteristic is apparent in many criteria such as the early birth dates, two year old performances under the first dams and their offspring, and the capacity for stallions to produce horses which are ready early. As such, 70% of the dams which ran did so at the age of two and 53% of these won at two. Elsewhere among the dams who have already produced runners, 72% produced runners at two and 73% of these horses won at two. Moreover nearly 71% of the yearlings in the catalogue are born before 31 March.

The v.2 catalogue is filled with brothers and sisters to horses who proved particularly talented and precocious. Standouts among these include a three parts brother by Kendargent to LITERATO (consigned by the Haras de la Reboursière et de Montaigu), a horse who was unbeaten in five starts at two and who went on to win the Champion Stakes (Gr.1), a Dubai Destination half brother to the Prix du Petit Couvert (Gr.3) winner DIBAJJ consigned by the Haras de la Perrigne, an American Post half brother to ANOTHER PARTY (consigned by the Haras d’Ellon), who was three times placed at Group 3 level at two, as well as a full sister to MERI SHIKA (presented by the Haras de la Gisloterie) who won at two and was third in the Prix des Réservoirs (Gr.3), as well as a Siyouni half brother to LOS CRISTIANOS (presented by the Haras de Grandcamp), winner of five races at two and later second in the Prix de Chaudenay (Gr.2), just half a length behind the triple Group 1 winner in Australia Manighar. Also worth a mention are a Canford Cliffs half sister to SALONA (consigned by the Haras d’Ombreville), Group 3 winner and Listed placed in Germany at two, a Le Havre half sister to SAFZEBOS (consigned by the Haras des Granges), a colt who was bought at the v.2 and who
already has a win and a second place to his name from three starts, as well as an Evasive half sister to KAPSTADT (offered by the Haras de Grandcamp), who was twice placed in B races at two before finishing placed three times at Listed level, and a half sister by Hurricane Cat to CHEIK BERE (consigned by Haras de la Haie Neuve), a two year old bought at last year’s v.2 sale who finished 4th in the Gr.3 Prix du Bois. Other noteworthy lots in the catalogue include a full sister to MAKE IT REEL, winner of the Prix Yacowlef (L.) presented by the Haras du Logis, and a Silver Frost half sister to the excellent CHAIBIA (offered by the Haras des Capucines), a winner at two who went on to win the Prix de Psyché (Gr.3) and the Prix Finlande (L.).

Added to this, the catalogue also offers offspring by young mares who made their mark on the track from the age of two such as the yearling filly by Siyouni out of the Listed winner TIANSHAN consigned by the Haras du Logis, the second offspring by Dark Angel out of the dual Group 3 placed VELVET REVOLVER consigned by the Haras d’Omméel, the second offspring by Kendargent out of VITAL BODY (consigned by the Haras de Colleville), three times Listed placed at two, or even the second offspring by Elusive City out of CHANTILLY CREME, who won the Prix du Béquet (L.) and was second in the Prix du Bois (Gr.3) at two. Other standouts include the very first offspring by Sageburg out of PEACE OF OASIS (consigned by the Haras des Capucines), a young mare from the family of the excellent Peace Burg who won two races at two including a B race before going on to win the Prix Rose de Mai (L.), as well as the third foal out of Princesse Love (consigned by the Haras de Tourgeville), who is already in the dam of the Listed placed and winner at two STAR PRINCE and ROYAL SUN.

The catalogue for the v. sale also stands out thanks to the huge diversity of stallions. Represented by 9 yearlings in the v.2 sale, KENDARGENT is once more leading sire of two year olds in France thanks to 5 runners as of 30 June (source: France Galop) winner of 6 races including the Gr.3 Prix du Bois taken by the good Goken. The Haras de Colleville stallion is hotly pursued on the leaderboard by SIYOUNI whose 12 two year old runners have won 8 races between them. Chief among these is Mocklershill, a colt bought for €85,000 at the August yearling sale who just won the Prix Yacowlef (L.). Siyouni will be represented by 13 yearlings in the v.2 sale.

The v.2 yearling sale also does yearlings by young stallions with a promising future proud, such as EVASIVE, LE HAVRE, MAKFI, MYBOYCHARLIE, PACO BOY, RIP VAN WINKLE, SHOWCASING, SILVER FROST, VALE OF YORK as well as first crop yearling sires such as CANFORD CLIFFS, LILBOURNE LAD, LOUP BRETON, NEVER ON SUNDAY, SHAKESPEAREAN, WOOTTON BASSETT, ZOFFANY.
