The 2014 August Yearling Sale will take place at Deauville from Saturday 16 to Monday 18 August during the Prix Jacques Le Marois weekend, a race which has been crowned best in the world over a mile. This first rendezvous of the year dedicated to yearlings will be followed on Tuesday 19 August by the second renewal of the v.2 yearling sale which will offer, in a totally separate catalogue, 123 yearlings with a more precocious profile. The August Sale catalogue which is available at www.arqana.com is made up of a remarkable selection of 365 yearlings which will be presented over three days and split into two parts. Part 1 which has 180 lots groups together the Saturday and Sunday sessions which will begin at 5pm. Part 2 which is made up of 185 yearlings, is concentrated into the Monday session and will start at 1pm. Approximately 83% of the yearlings in the catalogue carry the ‘FR’ suffix or are assimilated ‘FR’ and are therefore eligible for the lucrative French owners premiums.
2013 was an extraordinary vintage of no less than 11 Group 1 victories for horses which went through the Deauville sales ring as yearlings. TREVE completed the rare Diane/Vermeille/Arc (Gr.1) treble FLOTILLA and STYLE VENDOME bagged the Poules d’Essai (Gr.1) while TORONADO took the Sussex Stakes (Gr.1), CHICQUITA the Irish Oaks (Gr.1) and SHAMALGAN the Premio Vittorio Di Capua (Gr.1). The two year old generation was also proudly represented by VORDA, who won the Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr.1) and finished an excellent second in the Prix Morny (Gr.1), as well as ECTOT and PRINCE GIBRALTAR, who respectively won the Critérium International (Gr.1) and the Critérium de Saint-Cloud (Gr.1) with great authority. 2014 has already started with a bang as three of the first four French Classics this spring went to ARQANA graduates AVENIR CERTAIN, who completed the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches/Prix de Diane (Gr.1) double and THE GREY GATSBY, who ran out the easy winner of the Prix du Jockey Club (Gr.1), while across the Channel TORONADO made a sensational reappearance when winning the Queen Anne Stakes (Gr.1) at Royal Ascot.

The 2014 August Sale catalogue is once again bursting with yearlings of great quality belonging to the finest families from France, Europe and America and will no doubt offer the next generation of Group 1 winners.
Coulonces Consignment (Anna and Etienne Drion) will send out an exceptional draft of 39 yearlings including a half sister to the champion filly AVENIR CERTAIN by Rock Of Gibraltar, a sire who is currently having a great time of it thanks notably to the German 1000 Guineas winner Ajaxana, as well as a
High Chaparral half brother to MISS FRANCE, brilliant winner of the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket this year. Also worth a mention is a full brother to the excellent RELIABLE MAN (Dalakhani) who won the Prix du Jockey Club (Gr.1) and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr.1) in Australia, a Teofilo half brother to LE HAVRE, Classic sire who has already produced Avenir Certain from his very first crop, as well as a Dubawi half sister to OH GOODNESS ME, winner of the Park Express Stakes (Gr.3).
Ecurie des Monceaux which has been so successful with the horses it has bred, once again comes to the August Sale with plenty of ammunition thanks to a battalion of 29 yearlings which includes two representatives of the highly sought after Invincible Spirit, sire of dual Group 1 winner Kingman, and these are a half brother to the Irish Oaks (Gr.1) winner CHICQUITA and a half sister to the Group 1 winners ETCOT and MOST IMPROVED. Champion sire Galileo will for his part see four of his offspring go through the ring under the Monceaux banner including a half-sister to 2014 Prix Hocquart (Gr.2) winner FREE PORT LUX out of the Beverley D. Stakes (Gr.1) winner and four time Group 1 placed ROYAL HIGHNESS, as well as a half brother BLUE CANARI, who won the Prix du Jockey Club (Gr.1). These will be preceded through the ring by one of the very last daughters of the great Monsun and a sister to the Group 1 horses SOBERANIA, SEISMOS and SAMBA BRAZIL, who are all closely related to the German phenomenon SEA THE MOON.
The Haras des Capucines also has an excellent contingent of 28 yearlings including most notably three yearlings by the exceptional Galileo including the second foal out of ELUSIVE WAVE, who won the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (Gr.1) and was placed several times at Group 1 level, and a half sister to the stallion CLODOVIL. They will be accompanied at Deauville by a Pivotal half brother to the dual Grade 1 winner in the States ZAGORA, a full brother to ALTERITE, who also won at the highest level on the other side of the Atlantic, as well as by yearlings out of sisters to STACELITA and PEINTRE CELEBRE.
The Haras de la Reboursière et de Montaigu will offer 18 yearlings including the full sister to PRINCE GIBRALTAR, who finished a remarkable third in the Prix du Jockey Club (Gr.1) this year, the first foal by Galileo out of Dance Secretary, a Danehill Dancer sister to PERFECT SOUL, who
won and was multiple placed at Group 1 level in the States, as well as two fillies out of Kendor sisters to BELLE ET CELEBRE, one by the highly sought after Sea The Stars out of the Group 1 placed YSOLDINA, the other by Invincible Spirit and CAUSA PROXIMA out of whom she is the second foal.
The August Sale will also offer 19 yearlings from the Haras du Quesnay including a half brother by Dansili to the dual Group 2 winner SILVER POND, a yearling by Dutch Art out of Loxandra, the dam of five black type horses including Lockinge Stakes (Gr.1) winner KELTOS, as well as three representatives of Sea The Stars, a young stallion regularly making headlines thanks to his first crop of
three year olds.
The Haras de la Louvière, which is constantly making its mark through the horses it has bred, will go to Deauville with 16 yearlings including a Lawman half brother to the top class LESSTLAK IN PARIS, who has just recently finished second in the Coronation Stakes (Gr.1) to Rizeena, a daughter of Iffraaj who was winning her second Group 1. As a matter of fact Iffraj will be represented by 10 yearlings in August including another Louvière protégé out of a young sister to Classic horses LAWMAN and LATICE. La Louvière will also offer the first foal by Makfi out of the very talented BAINE, who won the Prix Finlande (L.) and finished second in the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (Gr.1) just a head behind Special Duty.
As for the Haras d’Etreham, it will present 25 horses including a New Approach sister to ASI SIEMPRE, who won a Grade 1 in the States and is the dam of OUTSTRIP, a two year old very much in the limelight in 2013 who recently finished third to Kingman in the Saint James’s Palace
Stakes (Gr.1) at Royal Ascot, as well as a yearling colt by Sea The Stars out of EN PUBLIC, dam of no less than seven black type horses.
The Haras du Mézeray will send out a contingent of 24 yearlings including a New Approach half brother to the multiple Group 1 placed ARGENTINA as well as a filly by Sea The Stars out of Jane Eyre, a young Sadler’s Wells mare out of the triple Group 1 winner in Germany ALBANOVA.
19 yearlings will go through the ring under the Haras de Grandcamp banner including a New Approach half brother to champion two year old DABIRSIM, who won the Prix Morny (Gr.1) and the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère (Gr.1), and the third foal by Oasis Dream out of SONEVA, who won three Group 3s from 2 to 4.
La Motteraye Consignment will lead 16 yearlings through the ring including a Monsun daughter of DUBAI ROSE, who won a Listed race in Germany and is a sister to HANAMI a winner at Group 2 level in England, while the Haras du Cadran will be represented by 20 lots including a Zoffany half brother to VEDEUX and the first foal by Danehill Dancer out of KARTICA, several times placed at Group and Listed level.
The August Yearling Sale also places great importance on vendors with smaller drafts which are nonetheless filled with quality. As such the Haras de Colleville will present six of its best yearlings by in-house stallion Kendargent including a full brother to the excellent KENHOPE, talented winner of the Prix de la Grotte (Gr.3) who was placed at Group 1 level four times, as well as a full sister to GOKEN, promising two year old with two wins and one place in as many starts. Among the Haras d’Omméel’s draft of seven horses will feature the second foal by Raven’s Pass out of ELLE GALA, a daughter of the matriarch ELLE DANZIG, while the Haras du Mont Dit Mont will present among its three yearlings the very first filly by More Than Ready out of Green Diamond Lady, a winner in the States and a daughter of SPAIN, dual Grade 1 winner and multiple Grade 1 placed in the US.
The Haras de la Perelle will send five of its yearlings to the sales including a full sister to the promising three-year-old CLADOCERA (Oasis Dream) who has won both her starts this year including the Prix des Lilas (L.) at Longchamp. Also noteworthy are the Haras d’Ellon draft whose headline lot is the first offspring by Shamardal out of the Prix des Réservoirs winner (Gr.3) ESPIRITA, the Haras du Logis Saint Germain draft with its six yearlings including a colt by Invincible Spirit and a full sister to NOVA HAWK, a Group 3 winner and second in the Coronation Stakes (Gr.1), as well as the Haras d’Ombreville draft which is made up of four yearlings including the second foal out of NINA CELEBRE, a Listed winner in Germany and daughter of the Preis der Diana (Gr.1) winner NEXT GINA.
Deauville sales regulars Newsells Park Stud and Ballylinch Stud will once again be present and will respectively send out drafts of 11 and six yearlings. The first mentioned will notably present a filly by the hugely popular Dansili out of the precocious PONTENUOVO whose first offspring she is, as well as a son of Shamardal out of a sister to Prix de Diane (Gr.1) winner and Prix Vermeille (Gr.1) and Pretty Polly Stakes (Gr.1) placed WEST WIND. The Irish stud will on the other hand offer a Lope De Vega half sister to the Group 3 winner and Group 2 placed NARGYS as well as a Rip Van Winkle sister to the precocious US LAW, who won the Prix Thomas Bryon (Gr.3) at two and was placed in
the Critérium International (Gr.1).
