EXCELLENT BREEZE UP CATALOGUE TO OFFER 169 JUVENILES BY THE BEST EUROPEAN AND AMERICAN SIRES

Posted on | Posted in news

For the third consecutive year, ARQANA’s Breeze Up Sale will take place in Deauville, May 11-12. Now available online, the catalogue brings together 169 two-year-old colts and fillies that will breeze on the Deauville-La Touques grass course, Friday 11 May from 11.30am. They will go through the ring a day later starting at 1:00pm, the day before the Poules d’Essai that are moving back to their historic yet brand new home of ParisLongchamp.

Last year, the sale was topped by WALK IN THE SUN, a son of Street Sense from the Mocklershill draft, who is now unbeaten in two starts in the colours of Phoenix Thoroughbreds. Several other graduates have shone at Listed and Group level in the past few weeks, including HAYABUSA ONE, runner-up in Grade 2 company in the USA on both his last outings, EXPRESSIY who hit the board in the UAE Oaks and 1,000 Guineas, and the promising GHAZAWAAT who took 3rd in the Prix La Camargo (L.) on her seasonal bow.

Next Monday at Saint-Cloud, the Gr.3 Prix Edmond Blanc will see the seasonal return of another talented breeze up gratuate in LE BRIVIDO, who was bought by Ted Voute at the 2016 renewal from Longways Stables and won the Gr.3 Jersey Stakes after narrowly missing out in the Gr.1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains.

70 stallions from both sides of the Atlantic

No less than 70 stallions have progeny catalogued, notably FRANKEL, who is represented by the only juvenile to go through a Breeze Up auction in Europe this year. The leading Aga Khan Studs sire SIYOUNI has 18 sons and daughters registered, the largest contingent in the catalogue, followed by DABIRSIM with 11. Established sires such as DANSILI, DARK ANGEL, DUTCH ART, EXCEED AND EXCEL, HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR, IFFRAAJ, INVINCIBLE SPIRIT, KENDARGENT, KODIAC, LE HAVRE, LOPE DE VEGA, MASTERCRAFTSMAN, OASIS DREAM, PIVOTAL, SEA THE STARS, SHOWCASING, WOOTTON BASSETT, etc. are all represented.

There is also a particularly strong presence of American sires in the catalogue, headed by the late SCAT DADDY, the sire of the winners of 43 Group 1s worldwide including CARAVAGGIO, LADY AURELIA and MENDELSSOHN. He will be represented by six two-year-olds from his final crop and feature alongside INTO MISCHIEF, the sire of Kentucky Derby hopeful AUDIBLE, ANIMAL KINGDOM, ARCH, DATA LINK, DISTORTED HUMOR, ELUSIVE QUALITY, EXCHANGE RATE, FLATTER, KITTEN’S JOY, MIZZEN MAST, MORE THAN READY, SUPER SAVER, RAVEN’S PASS, TEMPLE CITY, UNCLE MO and UNION RAGS.

Meanwhile, several exciting young stallions have their first two-year-olds catalogued namely ANODIN, AUSTRALIA, CHARM SPIRIT, FED BIZ, KINGMAN, MAGICIAN, NOBLE MISSION, NO NAY NEVER, OLYMPIC GLORY, SOMMERABEND, TORONADO, VERRAZANO and WAR COMMAND.

Looking at the maternal side, an outstanding 50% of the juveniles set to go under the hammer are out of, or siblings to, black-type performers. Of these, 30 boast a Group or Listed winning sibling, and 42 are out of a black-type winning dam.

38 horses qualified for the October Yearling Sale Criterium

Of the 169 horses catalogued, 38 will give their new owner a rare opportunity to have a runner during the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe weekend as they are qualified for the October Yearling Sale Criterium. The second running of this race, reserved for horses offered at the October Yearling Sale, is worth a minimum of €250,000 and will take place on October 5 at the brand new ParisLongchamp. The second confirmation stage for the race takes place after the sale on May 31.
