Fillies and mares bought at ARQANA’s December Breeding Stock Sale have produced numerous winners at the highest level across the globe, led by two dual Classic winners this year. The dam of Irish Derby and St Leger winner CAPRI, DIALAFARA, was bought for €175,000 by Margaret O’Toole from the draft of the Aga Khan Studs while MORNING LIGHT, who was purchased for just €12,000 by McKeever Bloodstock from Haras du Cadran became the dam of Poule d’Essai des Poulains and Prix du Jockey Club winner BRAMETOT. The latter was offered as a foal a year later, where he was picked up by Sylvain Vidal for €26,000 from Haras du Logis.
The list continues as the dams of 2017 Gr.1 winners IQUITOS and SHAKEEL were also recently sold at Deauville, as well as those of the highly talented two-year-olds THE PENTAGON and POLYDREAM, this year’s German 2,000 Guineas winner POETIC DREAM, Scandinavia’s top three-year-old filly DORCIA etc.
The 2017 renewal takes place from 9-12 December in Deauville. A total of 953 lots will go under the hammer, of which 455 mares, 174 fillies, 319 foals and four stallions. 10 Wild Cards are available to accommodate fillies with fresh form or foals/mares with an exciting update.

A sister to Zarkava and 41 other fillies and mares from the Aga Khan
The Aga Khan Studs have sold the dams of Gr.1 winners ALMANZOR, CAPRI and VADAMOS, leading young Ballydoyle hope THE PENTAGON, and several other stakes winners in Australia and Japan in recent years. The result of over a century of breeding, the Aga Khan’s pedigrees continue to shine across the world. This year the catalogue will offer 42 opportunities to buy into his rare gene pools.
The draft contains 25 fillies, including a once in a lifetime chance to buy ZAKIA (lot 197), a half-sister by New Approach to the unbeaten champion ZARKAVA, already the dam of Gr.1 winner ZARAK. Unraced, this filly descends from the foundation mare PETITE ETOILE, that is still so present in some of the best pedigrees today.
Also of note is ROSVANA (lot 49), a daughter of Dansili out of Prix Marcel Boussac winner ROSANARA; SABA (lot 50), a half-sister by Zamindar to Gr.1 Prix Saint-Alary winner SAGAWARA; VANZARA (lot 91), an unraced half-sister to Gr.1 winners VADAWINA (Prix Saint-Alary) and VAZIRA by Redoute’s Choice, etc.
An exciting racing prospects is VADSARIYA (lot 93), a daughter of Exceed And Excel out of VALASYRA. She has a current rating of 96 and ran 3rd at Listed level this year. Another with fresh form is DOLIANOVA (lot 182) a half-sister to Gr.1 winner DOLNIYA by Rock Of Gibraltar, who took 2nd at Deauville last time out, having opened her account on September 29 at Saint-Cloud.
The Aga Khan Studs will also consign 16 broodmares, including the Group 3 winner SHEMIYLA (lot 67), a daughter of Dalakhani out of Listed victress SHEMALA. She is in foal to the champion Golden Horn.
Two Group 1 winners from Ecurie des Monceaux
The consignor of the sale-topping PARVANEH last year, Ecurie des Monceaux is represented by 38 mares, fillies and foals, including two Group 1 winners:
Ecurie des Monceaux’s consignment also includes the only mare in foal to AMERICAN PHAROAH to go under the hammer in Europe this year: she is the dual Gr.3 placed and Prix de Diane 4th DESIREE CLARY (lot 200).
Another exceptional lot is the filly A RAVING BEAUTY (lot 127) who ran 2nd in the Gr.1 Premio Lydia Tesio on her latest outing, having already won two Listed races this year. The four-year-old daughter of Mastercraftsman is now rated 105 and looks to have plenty more to come.
Finally, Ecurie des Monceaux will offer for the first time a mare in foal to Siyouni covered on Southern Hemisphere time. HIDDEN GEM (lot 227) is a daughter of Shamardal out of a sister to Group winner HAZARISTA.

Fillies and mares consigned by Godolphin at Deauville have already produced two-year-old stakes winners CABLE BAY and RIOTICISM. This year, 12 fillies will go under the hammer, including Listed placed BOUQUET DE FLORES (lot 212), a daughter of Street Cry out of Stakes winner FLORISTRY, as well as four broodmares, of which INTERESTING (lot 105), second in the Gr.3 Prix Eclipse, in foal to Iffraaj and the Listed placed GOLD SANDS (lot 124), a half-sister to ABSOLUTE LADY carrying a three-parts sibling to dual Classic heroine LA CRESSONNIERE.

The standard of the foals on offer at the sale has been on an upward trend, both in terms of quality and quantity. Future Group winners such as BRAMETOT, bought for €26,000 in 2014, DIFFERENT LEAGUE, RYMSKA, MAIMARA and dual Listed winner AIMING FOR RIO were all purchased as foals at Deauville.
