A full field of 18 runners have been declared for the inaugural edition of the Haras de Bouquetot-Critérium de la Vente d’Octobre ARQANA, a mile contest for two-year-olds who were offered at the 2016 October Yearling Sale. This makes it the largest field on the opening day of the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Weekend, and with €274,000 up for grabs it is the second-richest race on the card, surpassed only by the Gr.1 Prix du Cadran.
The runners will travel from all around France as well as from Great Britain, attracted by the rare opportunity for their owners to have a runner on Arc weekend. Their purchase prices range from €12,000 to €200,000, representing the full spectrum of the October Yearling Sale.
The betting should revolve around a trio of exciting juveniles who will meet for the first time. DICE ROLL, a €130,000 son of Showcasing, has won two of his first three starts for trainer Fabrice Chappet and boasts the highest rating with 101; FERALIA, a daughter of Pedro The Great who only cost €12,000, completed a hat trick this season for Jean-Claude Rouget, culminating in the L. Criterium du Becquet. She was last seen when taking 2nd in the Gr.3 Prix La Rochette in the colours of former France Galop President Bertrand Belinguier. SWEETY DREAM, a filly by Dream Ahead who was bought for €30,000 by Agence FIPS on behalf of Guy Pariente, caused a mighty impression when making a winning debut for Pascal Bary and will be making her eagerly expected second start in this race.
All breeders, consignors, owners and trainers who nominated at least one horse for the race since the beginning of the qualification process back in October 2016 have been invited to a function hosted by ARQANA and race sponsor Haras de Bouquetot at Chantilly racecourse on Saturday. Haras de Bouquetot will also be presenting the breeders of the first three home with a nomination to Shalaa, Olympic Glory and Style Vendome respectively.
ARQANA President Eric Hoyeau commented: “After all the time and effort we have invested in the creation of this race, it is very rewarding to see a full field of runners from a broad variety of horizons. We wish the very best of luck to all connections and look forward to hosting such a large party for lunch on France’s feature weekend of racing.”
