CLAIREFONTAINE NEWCOMERS GRYFFICHOP, SHAMROCK ROVER & GREANETEEN TO BE OFFERED AT SUMMER SALE THURSDAY

Posted on | Posted in news

The Summer Sale has gained three final and particularly attractive Wild Card entries in the form of a trio of three-year-old geldings who made their hurdling debut at Clairefontaine earlier today.

GRYFFICHOP, lot 395A

GRYFFICHOP, a three-year-old gelding who scored by four lengths at Clairefontaine on his hurdling debut, having previously run five times on the flat. Trained by François Nicolle for owner-breeder Alain Chopard, who stands his sire Soave at his Haras des Faunes, raced handily and quickened sharply after the final obstacle to hold off 14 well-bred rivals.

Gryffichop is the first foal out of the consistent Griffyn, who won three races over hurdles and one over fences. She is a half-sister to the smart ISTI, also a winner over both hurdles and fences as well as runner-up to the top-class BAXTER in the Listed Prix Durtain (hurdle) at Enghien.

SHAMROCK ROVER, lot 405A

SHAMROCK ROVER made his racecourse debut in the same event and took a promising second under a gentle front ride by Ludovic Philipperon. The Yannick Fouin trainee is a well-bred son of No Risk At All, whose first crop has already lifted 5 winners of 7 races. Bred and raced by Mrs. Henri Devin, he is the first foal out of Lady Scarlet, who is herself a half-sister to the Gr.2 Mitie Noel Novices’ Chase Gr.2 POLITOLOGUE. They are out of the Listed-winning and Gr.1 Prix Maurice Gillois chase SCARLET ROW.

GREANETEEN, lot 410

Like Shamrock Rover, GREANETEEN never ran on the flat and made his debut this afternoon at Clairefontaine in the Prix du Pays d’Auge, another 3400-metre contest for unraced three-year-olds. The son of Great Pretender raced in the second part of the 15-strong field early on before making headway and hitting the front full of running at the final hurdle, only for his jockey to drop his whip. He still finished less than 4 lengths from the winner, with the fourth-placed horse 15 lengths adrift. By the sire of PTIT ZIG and GREAT FIELD, Greaneteen is a half-brother to the Auteuil Listed winner TURTEENE and Listed runner up POLY TEEN.
