On day two of Arqana’s February Mixed Sale, 122 of the 170 lots that went under the hammer changed hands (a clearance rate of 71%) at an average price of €8,300, grossing €1,014,900.
The highest price of the day was achieved near the end of the session by lot 390 PONTE BAWI, a half-sister, by super sire Dubawi, to the Prix Kergorlay (Gr.2) heroine Ponte Tresa. Consigned by Haras du Cadran, she was the centre of a protracted bidding war notably involving Hubert Honoré (Haras d’Omméel), Anthony Stroud and Hervé Bunel (Agence FIPS). The latter finally prevailed with a bid of €80,000. The filly will now join Guy Pariente’s broodmare band at Haras de Colleville, and be bred to resident stallion Kendargent.
Gestüt Kärlshof’s Holger Faust got the last word for the well-bred REPRESENTERA (lot 311), a full sister to the Gr.3 placed Becomes You (Lomitas), and half-sister to the Poule d’Essai des Poulains (Gr.1) hero Tin Horse. Offered by Ecurie des Monceaux, carrying to first-season sire Havana Gold, she attracted a final bid of €37,000, with Bertrand Le Metayer filling the underbidder position. Representera is now set for a trip to Germany and a date with Kärlshof’s youngest recruit Dabirsim.
Haras de la Cauviniere’s Sylvain Vidal secured MONTEBELLA (lot 285), a daughter of Montjeu out of Greek Air, who was runner-up in the Prix des Chênes (Gr.3). She was offered by Haras de la Villière, in foal to in-demand sire and Cauviniere resident Le Havre.
Earlier in the day, the hammer fell at €30,000 for LETTRE INTIME (lot 245). Yann Houyvet (Agence Equus) was the successful bidder and indicated that he was acting on behalf of Elevage de la Cordillère, a burgeoning operation set up 18 months ago and aiming to race the farm’s production. The daughter of Invincible Spirit was consigned by Haras du Hoguenet, carrying to George Vancouver, and she hails from a solid black type family in which the names of Group winners Diamond Mix, Diamond Dance and Diakali (Champion 4-y-o Hurdle Gr.1) feature prominently.
Jean-Pierre Deroubaix of F.B.A bagged lot 244 DICARA for 30.000€. The Ecurie des Monceaux offering carried a Makfi cover around the ring, and is out of German 1000 Guineas scorer (Gr.2) Dicada.
Lot 305 TOPS ISLAND (AQPS), a Kapgarde half-sister to Prix Montgomery (Gr.3) Sarisland, was knocked down to Georges Mullins for €30,000, acting on behalf of Irish owner Philip Heskin. She was offered by Elevage de Laure, in foal to Saint des Saints.
The February Mixed Sale’s 2015 renewal, which was held over two days for the first time, registered results on a par with 2013. With a diversified offer of broodmares, maiden mares, horses in training, foals and yearlings, this event allows breeders and trainers to turn their stock over. The overall turnover for the two days of selling is €1,949,400, with a clearance rate of 73%.
